Contention over a new charter school in Utica continues to grow.
Assemblyman Brindisi and Senator Griffo say that it will put even more financial stress on the Utica school district.
The other side says that the benefits for the kids can’t be overlooked.
“Approving another charter school in Utica will take further money away from the Utica school district and exacerbate an already bad situation there," said Assemlyman Brindisi.
“Improved education isn’t always about the money. Improved education is about many different things. About changing ways we deliver instruction about changing ways of the model that we're looking at. About not using one size for all," said member of the charter school funding group Dorothy Porteus.
The petition for the new charter school currently has over three hundred signatures of parents who want the school.
