Fate of Boilermaker to be Announced at 5:00 AM, Thunderstorms Possible

It's uncertain whether the 37th running of the Boilermaker will be cancelled or go on as scheduled tomorrow morning. Possible thunderstorms threaten to cancel the annual race for the first time in its history. Boilermaker President Tim Reed said in an evening press conference that "rain is not the issue, but thunderstorms are." He said the canceling the race would be an "all or nothing" decision, with no rescheduling or postponing of the race. With more than 50,000 racers and spectators and little shelter along the course, a lightening and thunderstorm could pose a serious safety risk.
