Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - As if the SU - Duke game wasn't exciting enough, ESPN is ramping it up even more with its traveling pre-game show, College GameDay, broadcasting live from the Carrier Dome.

The show will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday with a backdrop of rabid fans.

The college basketball analysis show comes out of the studio and broadcasts live from a different arena each Saturday during the heart of the season.

"There is a script, but you've got to be prepared as a producer to kind of feel your talent out and where they go and be prepared with whatever news could potentially break,” explained GameDay producer Tom Engle. “Maybe they get into a discussion that's really, really good and you just kind of let them go."

Former college and NBA star Jalen Rose has another take on the broadcast.

“We don't share, it’s give it to Bilas and get out of the way, that's the isolation play,” Rose joked. “In all honesty it’s preparation, understanding topics, each person's feelings on where they want to go with something that's being addressed and allow them to express themselves yet find a way to chime in and disagree and have your own opinion, allow the show to continue to flow and flow smoothly."

The shows on-air talent - Rece Davis, Jalen Rose, Digger Phelps and Jay Bilas - say they're excited to bring the show to Syracuse and for Digger Phelps, this is his third time with GameDay at the Carrier Dome. Years ago though Phelps says he thought he'd be in Syracuse for something much different than college basketball, following in his father's footsteps.

"My father was an undertaker except I got the nickname Digger and he slipped by it. Actually my dad went to the Simmons Schools of Embalming up here in Syracuse where I was supposed to go back in '63, but that summer when I got out of Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey in between funerals I started coaching in the summer league and then I delayed embalming school," Phelps said.

The Dome opens at 8 a.m. for College GameDay. Tickets to the event are free and can be found at the outside ticket booths by Gates A, B and C.
