Many people here in the Mohawk Valley will never forget the case of David Renz. He's the Central New York man accused of murdering a local woman and raping a ten year old girl in Syracuse. Today Renz was in court - in Syracuse - sentenced to 30 years in prison on separate child pornography charges.

The sentencing for the murder of Lori Bresnahan and the rape of the young girl will happen in May. But first up, the sentencing for the child pornography charges that existed first. Even though they're separate cases technically, the federal judge today said he could take all crimes into consideration in coming up with the 30 year sentence.

When the murder and rape happened in Clay a year ago, Renz was on conditional pre-trial release. That connection made today's punishment more severe than the average child pornography sentence.

Renz had no comment to the courtroom and showed no emotion.

Federal prosecutors have asked the sentences from both cases to be combined and run consecutively. So now the attention shifts to the next case. Former colleagues of Lori Bresnahan's were in court today and reacted to the possibility of the death penalty.

If the U.S. Attorneys do seek the death penalty, Renz can withdraw his guilty plea, but for now 30 years in prison a lot more likely to come after the next sentencing.

The U.S. Attorney says Renz had more than 11,000 pictures and 1,000 child porn videos. Neither Renz's attorney nor the federal prosecutor spoke to reporters after court.
