Comets Help Serve Meals at Utica Rescue Mission

The Utica Rescue Mission had some new faces in the kitchen Tuesday helping prepare and serve up hot meals. A few of the Utica Comets players replaced their hockey sticks with serving spoons, doing their part to give back.

Players took some time off from the ice, trading in their helmets for hairnets and rolling up their sleeves to help serve and prepare dinner at the Utica Rescue Mission. Something representatives from the rescue mission say is greatly appreciated.
"It just really exemplifies a caring community, for them to come out, take time out of their schedule, I mean they're practicing day in and day out, going on the road for games so for them to come out and show how much they care about our community, it means a ton to us," says Ernie Talerico Executive Director of the Utica Rescue Mission.
And the players say the feeling of giving back is just as rewarding for them.
"They’ve given us so much in terms of support so if we can lend a hand anywhere it's what we want to do,” says Comets player Brandon DeFazio.
For Yann Sauve, it was an extra special day to give back to his new community.
"It’s good to give back to the community and I think it's a great day for it, it's my birthday and it's just good for us to be here,” said Sauve.
All of the food served Tuesday afternoon was donated to the Rescue Mission and for those that stopped by for dinner their meal was topped off with some delicious dessert and their favorite Utica Comets players.
