One of the most exciting parts of the expo are the bibs. Runners get the first piece of material that makes it all seem real.
“I am handing out packets and I’m handing out pins.”
Over the course of two days over 17,000 runners will be picking up their bibs for Boilermaker 2014. For many traveling from far away, picking up the bib is just the first part of a big weekend. And they use it as a time to reflect.
“Oh, I get my bib in my hand and I say, 'Ut-oh, I should've trained a little more,'” says Elena Sierra, of Massachusetts.
And after runners get their bib they head over the main event and they get a packet full of a good luck sign, a magazine and a cup, from these lovely ladies.
“I enjoy it because I’m helping everyone here and they enjoy coming a getting their goodie bags and running the race and making it the best. And it's for our area--Utica--and vicinity,” Evelyn Malara, of New Hartford.
But whether you have butterflies…
"A little nervous."
Or you can't contain your excitement
Picking up the bibs is just the first step to a weekend full of fun and running.
But Friday isn't the only day runners can pick up their bibs, they'll be here all day on Saturday, as well.
