CNY Named First 'Purple Heart Congressional District'

With Veteran's Day just around the corner, some servicemen and women are being honored early this year. Congressman Richard Hanna announced this morning that the 22nd Congressional District of New York, which includes all of Oneida County and parts of Herkimer County, is the first in the nation to be named a "Purple Heart Congressional District." It honors all those awarded the purple heart medal for their sacrifices defending our nation in battle.

"Shows the constituents understand sacrifice, freedom is not free and it comes at a high price. This coming Monday is Veterans Day, and each veteran helps preserve the freedom of this nation," says Joseph Fraccola, Dept. of NYS Military Order Of The Purple Heart.

Nearly 60,000 veterans live in the 22nd Congressional District.
