While most businesses close up shop on Christmas day there's at least one place that always has its lights on. The Marquee Cinemas in New Hartford was jam packed today with movie-goers.
A few new flicks were released today like "The Wolf on Wall Street" and "Grudge Master." Some movies sold out within hours. Cinema staff say Christmas day is always one of the busiest days of the year. "Pretty busy, really busy, a lot of holiday crowds coming in, we're one of the only places open, so we'll be getting a lot of people today, there were over a thousand people already,” said Dennis Spellman, Assistant Manager of the theater.
"We’re here to see the Madea Christmas movie, they've been driving me crazy so I thought I’d bring them out. We just had dinner so we're here to go see a movie,” said Betty Mercer at the movies with her granddaughters.
"I actually don't celebrate Christmas, but I like to see the people come in and they're all festive and it's exciting,” says Amina Badnjevic, an employee at the cinema.
The Marquee Cinemas opened at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. There was an initial rush, a slow period and then crowds picked back up after the holiday dinner.
