With the 2013 Boilermaker in the books - it's time now to focus on the next one.
And this year, organizers are looking to make the process of participating more convenient.
The event is making changes to their logo and registration date. Organizers say race cap numbers will remain the same.
Boilermaker organizers announced the big changes at the Runners Hall of Fame in Utica.
First, they're changing to a later March 22 registration date to help participants prepare for next year’s big race.
“We want to make sure people are ready to go if they are running the 15K or the 5K. We really, at the end of the day, want people to come to the race,” says Boilermaker President Tim Reed.
They're showing-off next year's logo which features a whole new design.
The logo was created in collaboration with a student at Mohawk Valley Community College.
“It's awesome now to see it printed big and know that they're going to be hundreds of thousands of people wearing this logo and seeing it being used other than my portfolio,” says Dowker.
“What's been great about the logo is we've been doing this community college for a few years now. And it's great to see people involved with the race that we wouldn't necessarily have," Reed says.
The 37th Annual Boilermaker Race will be accepting online applications at boilermaker.com.
Next year’s event is set for Sunday, July 13, 2014.
"I think it's going to be great. Last year's event sold out in 3 days. It'll be interested to see if we have an effect one way or the other by moving the date," says Reed.
Approximately twenty thousand participated in the race this year, organizers expect a similar turnout in 2014.
