We are just about a month away before the Utica Comets home opener at the Aud.

Yesterday, Eyewitness News got a sneak peek at some of the changes you'll notice when the puck drops for the very first time.

The Aud's walls have been painted blue, green, and white and crews are in the process of installing brand new scoreboards.

Also, the Aud is getting a brand new sheet of ice.  That project is being overseen by an ice expert who has previously worked for the Olympics.

"The laying of the ice started late last week.  We started with a thin layer, we turned the chillers on, we painted, we put down the mesh which is the center ice logo and all the advertisement logos.  And since then, we have had a crew out there spraying layer by layer every hour on the hour.  We need a few more inches to go, but we are getting there," said Utica Comets Director of Communications, Mark Caswell, Jr.

Comets' players start arriving in Utica next week and everything -- including the locker rooms -- is expected to be ready in time for the season opener.

The Comets' first ever game is this Sunday, a pre-season contest in Canada against the Abbotsford Heat.
