There was no relief for the injury-riddled Comets on this night.
The AHL's best Toronto Marlies continued their torrid start to the season powering past the Comets 5-2 at the Adirondack Bank Center.
The two teams were tied late in the first, when Miro Aaltonen maneuvered past four Comets and scored on a nifty backhander to give Toronto a 1-0 lead.
Utica would respond in the second when Patrick Wiercioch scored in his first game back off a 2-on-1 with Michael Chaput.
Five minutes later, the Marlies re-took the lead when Justin Holl put one past Demko, and then in the last minute of the period, Dmytro Timashov extended the lead to 3-1.
Toronto continued to pour it on in the third with goals from Holl and Chris Mueller to make it 5-1 Marlies. Reid Boucher scored with under five seconds to play, but it was all for naught as the Comets' struggles continued with their second straight loss and fifth in their last six games.
Utica will return to action on Friday night against Laval.
