Cardell Hayes gets 25 years in prison for killing Utica native and former NFL star Will Smith last April.

Hayes faced a maximum of 60 years in jail after being convicted of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter last December.

Before being sentenced, Hayes tearfully apologized to Will Smith's widow Raquel saying he wished that night never happened and he acted in self-defense.

The Canucks are losing a pair of players to the KHL.  Nakita Tryamkin and Philip Larsen are both leaving the team after one season.

Tryamkin is signing on with Avtmobilist and Larsen is joining Salavat Yulae on a 2-year deal.

In local baseball, Dylan Warlath strikes out seven and allows just one-hit in Dolgeville's 10-1 win over Remsen, Little Falls notches a pair of wins over West Canada Valley and New Hartford beats RFA 11-7.

In softball, Proctor wins a slugfest over Notre Dame 12-7.  Leigha Rivera tallies three hits including a home run and drives in four in the Raiders' win.
