Comets stave off elimination, down Marlies 5-2

The Comets are back in it.

They staved off elimination with a 5-2 victory over the Marlies on Wednesday night in Game 3 of their best-of-five postseason series.

Reid Boucher got the scoring started with a power-play goal eight minutes in to give Utica their first lead of the entire series.  It was his first game back since suffering a broken hand in late March.

Wacey Hamilton's one-timer extended the lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later, and Cole Cassels made it 3-0 with a breakaway goal later in the opening frame.

It stayed that way until Carl Rosen got the Marlies on the board with 9:31 left in the game, however Tyler Motte answered with his first goal as a Comet four minutes later.

Colin Greening cut the Toronto deficit to 4-2 shortly after, but Cassels put the game on ice with an empty-netter in the closing moments.

The two teams will play Game 4 at the Adirondack Bank Center on Friday night.  Faceoff is set for 7pm.
