The Checkers strike for three first period goals to power past the Comets 5-2 on Wednesday night.
Andrew Miller scored just 26 seconds in for Charlotte, and after Nikolay Goldobin tied it at 1 six minutes later, the Checkers scored two goals in two minutes to take a 3-1 lead after the first period.
The second period started much like the first, with Lucas Wallmark putting one past Richard Bachman 50 seconds in to extend the Charlotte lead to 4-1.
Zack MacEwen cut the deficit to 4-2 with 15 seconds left in the second, but that would be as close as the Comets would come.
Warren Foegele put the game on ice for the Checkers with an empty-net goal late in the third.
With the loss, the Comets fall to 5-5-0-1 on the season. They'll be back home again on Friday night against the Checkers with faceoff set for just after 7pm.
