We're just a day away from one of the biggest holiday weekends of the summer and the place to be is Sylvan Beach.
Wednesday marked the official opening of the Sylvan Beach Amusement Park. It welcomed the beautiful weather and crowds of people.
“I too thought it might be a little quiet at the beginning but I think people were waiting in their cars,” says Pat Goodenow, Sylvan-Verona Beach Resort Association.
And the people coming to check out the amusement park were welcomed by another Sylvan Beach staple--Carello's Carousel. They say the opening of the amusement park only enhanced their season.
“We're glad to see the amusement park finally opening and getting some more people into our business. But now since everything is starting to come together in the season, we're really seeing more producing in our business and we're glad more people are coming out to Sylvan Beach,” Andrew Walters, Carello’s Carousel.
And even though the weather's disgusting and people are running off the beach. There's still so much to do--like stopping in for a meal at the historic Eddie's.
" It definitely takes you back in time," Melissa Santa Maria, Eddie’s Restaurant.
Eddie's Restaurant has been a Sylvan Beach staple for 80 years. Because of its long-time presence the restaurant says its business sustains itself without regardless of the attractions.
“A lot of people come just for eddies. And even people out of town they always when they're in the area have to stop at Eddie's because they used to come with their parents or grandparents when they were little,” says Santa Maria.
So whether it's a sunny day perfect for the beach...or it's a day like today...Sylvan Beach is sure to have the perfect summer getaway.
