An 84-year-old Sauquoit man is missing after a camping trip in the town of Forestport. Donald Combs disappeared into the wilderness of the Black River Wild Forest trail head last week according to State Police.

They also say he may have left behind a clue. A shirt, believed to be Combs’ was found tied around a tree, either to let people know where he was or to help guide him back to the trail,

His family located his car leading officials to believe that he made it to Gull Lake.

“We are using our aviation assists, we have bloodhounds, we have other canine assets that are present. We are looking at this as a rescue effort right now, we don’t know if Mr. Combs became disoriented and lost or if he became incapacitated, if he fell down or if he broke a limb or something like that,” says Captain Francis Coots of the New York State Police.

Combs left a note promising to return home from camping by Friday or Saturday, when he didn't, a search began Sunday and on Monday that search resumed.
