Could the next Erin Hamlin be right here in the Mohawk valley? Well, the USA Luge National Team coaches want to find out.

The USA Slider Search is returning to Utica in mid-August. Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente along with Mayor Robert Palmieri was joined by Erin Hamlin herself Thursday morning to announce the upcoming event.

The Slider Search will be held August 16th and 17th to recruit kids between the ages of 9 and 13 to see if anyone has what it takes to become the next gold medalist. Hamlin says the event is one she holds dear to her heart.

"This is exactly how I got into the sport, the USA Luge Slider Search visited Syracuse, New York in 1999 and I attended, same thing, on a weekend, got to go down on a wheeled-sled, had no idea what I was getting myself into but it was a very worthwhile trip to Syracuse and it was a lot of fun,” said Hamlin.

The event is free and open to all Oneida County kids. It will take place right outside of City Hall.
