Eyewitness News will be amongst the forty plus vendors at the Job Fair Extraordinaire on Wednesday. We have openings in a couple different departments. So if you're interested in the TV business, the job fair could be your chance to try it out.
There's a lot more to WUTR than you may think. We have half a dozen departments that keep the machine running and you may be the perfect fit for one of them.
"We're always looking for good people we've got some openings in sales, and in news and in production," says Steve Merren, Vice President and General Manager of WUTR-TV.
Merren says there are specific qualities he looks for in potential employees.
"If you're going to apply for a job here we want somebody who’s' engaged, somebody who can think on their feet, somebody that likes change and likes to juggle a lot of things at one time," said Merren.
There are currently openings in the news department, sales department and master control. No matter the position, WUTR department heads say drive and determination is key.
"Well, right now we're looking for a master control operator, we're looking for a multi-media journalist basically the kind of people we're looking for are the ones who have some ambition, we can teach skills but we can't teach work ethic,” says Albert Bangs, Production Manager at WUTR.
Bangs says attending the job fair can put you at an advantage when it comes time to hire.
"The other advantage to meeting people at the job fair is we get a chance to put a face to a resume you know, if you can make it just a little bit memorable, if you stand out, if we've met you before, you come to mind a little bit easier,” said Bangs.
Both Bangs and Merren also suggest coming to the job fair dressed professionally and having done research on any companies you may be interested in. So be sure to check out the WUTR booth Wednesday when you're making your rounds at the Job Fair Extraordinaire.
