Thursday marked the start of the screenings. Anyone four years or older is welcome to call and make an appointment. The hearing tests are free for the community.
Specialists say hearing loss is far more common than many people think.
"A lot of people think oh it's just for people who are older but 55% of people with significant loss are under 55 which is one of the reasons why we chose 55 as a good starting time but you know really, the earlier the better,” said Christine Hoage, Manager of the Hearing and Speech Department at Faxton St. Luke’s.
Representatives from the Hearing and Speech Department say their goal is to give out at least 250 screenings this year. Faxton St. Luke’s is also offering free speech screenings through the month of May.
