Academics.  Involvement.  And athleticism.  She has it all.  One local high school student is not only meeting expectations but far exceeding them.  And on Friday the community rallying behind her and she promising to give back.

With a graduation rate of 67 percent, Proctor High School often gets a bad rap.  But one junior is doing her best to change that stigma.

"I've always been focused.  And I’ve always liked to spread out my activities and kind of be involved in a little bit of everything,” Jordan says.

Hilda Jordan is involved in three varsity sports, student council and still manages to have a perfect gpa.  But school is just something she's always loved.

"I remember the first day i put her in kindergarten my sister and I were crying because she was only four and she said, 'mommy, don't cry.  The school is not for crying.  I'm so happy here,'" says Cecilia Guerrero, mother.

Jordan was recently accepted into the prestigious Harvard Summer Program.  Given half a scholarship, she was faced with the challenge of paying $7,000 within 10 days.  And Jordan said, “Challenge accepted.”

"I feel like that in a way it's almost another game field.  Where I’m given the opportunity and it's up to me how the game goes.  I can win or lose but it's all based on my actions," Jordan says.

Thanks to the community, Jordan reached her goal today.  And she promises one day she will pay everyone back for their support.

"Previously as a youth I might've said I don't want to come back to Utica.  I want to go out to a bigger place, things like that.  But seeing the support that I’m getting here and all of the help...it's like how can you not coming back to such an amazing place?” she says.

Even though she has met her goal for tuition, she says every bit will help for living and moving expense.  If you would like to donate to Hilda Jordan checks can be made out to the Mohawk Valley Frontiers and mailed to 1218 Ash St. Utica, NY 13502.
