The Herkimer woman who was found with twelve malnourished dogs in her home back in December, appeared in court on Tuesday.

65-year-old Barbara Smith was expected to be sentenced today to three years of probation after pleading guilty in April to failing to provide proper sustenance to the dogs.

Smith has since hired a new attorney, and the judge agreeing today to postpone the sentencing date until next month.

Smith must surrender ownership of the 12 dogs and pay the humane society $17,000 for medical and shelter bills.
