UTICA, NY (WUTR)-- The Compassion Coalition is expanding. The organization recently purchased land on Lincoln Ave in Utica to build a larger grocery store.
"We're gonna build a new store to accommodate the need," Compassion Coalition founder, Mike Servello explained. "Right now, there are so many people pressing to get in here, plus we don't have a big enough display to put all of our product out."
The idea of building a larger Your Bargain Grocer has been in the works for the past 2 years.
"What we do at Your Bargain Grocer is we provide very low cost high quality items for people to shop for groceries. Our new store is going to do the same thing, but it's going to be 10,000 square feet. So we are growing it by 10 times," Ryan Barone, Chairman of the Compassion Coalition stated.
The new store will also have a kitchen, so that healthy pre-packaged meals can be prepared for customers. The Compassion Coalition offers more than a grocery store.
"We've got mattresses, we got furniture, we got back to school supplies, we got prepared meals that we are doing. There's many, many things," Servello said.
The organization has also been shipping supplies to areas impacted by the recent hurricanes.
"We help over a million people a year across the globe, most of them in Central New York, with the products that are distributed from The Compassion Coalition," Barone explained.
The organization is hoping that the new store will be completed by next summer.
