In just 18 days the runners will take their marks and Boilermaker 2014 will be underway. The committee is meeting for a final time to discuss last minute details.
Ready or not, more than about 50,000 people will be at the finish line after Boilermaker 2014.
In 18 days it'll that time again....
“No matter what, it's going to happen in 18 days. No matter what at 8:00 the starting horn will go off and 14,000 runners will be running in the 15k race,” says Jim Stasaitis, race director.
On Tuesday night, the committee members will meet for the last time. Each of them will receive their volunteer shirts and credentials trying to tie up loose ends before the big day.
“The train has left the tracks, the caboose has just left the station and it's on its way to the destination. Things are going well," Stasaitis says.
And while the Boilermaker committee is doing their final touches behind these door, our very own Eyewitness News meteorologist Samantha wising is making sure she's ready for the race as well.
“Well I’ve been training. I try to run at least three times a week. I've been doing a lot of spinning as well which is new for me this year. So I’m hoping that that will help with my endurance while I’m out there on the course,” Wessing says.
This is Wessing's twelfth Boilermaker. But this year she says will be a whole new experience.
“Well, this year running for the station I feel a little bit more pressure I guess I’m a little more nervous about that--having people besides my family watch me. I feel a little bit more pressure," she says.
But ready or not...Wessing and over 15,000 of her closest friends will be running past the start line in just 18 days for boilermaker 2014.
