Blizzard Warning For Otsego County

Winds 40 – 50 MPH Expected

COOPERSTOWN, NY - The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Blizzard Warning for Otsego County, in effect until 1:00AM Saturday morning. Blizzard conditions exist when winds are gusting as high as 50 mph, causing whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant drifting of the snow is likely. Additional snow accumulations of 10 to 14 inches are expected, especially at higher elevations.


Travel will be very dangerous to impossible. Tree damage and scattered power outages are expected, especially at higher elevations from weight of snow and gusty winds. Winds gusting as high as 40 to 50 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.


A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
